SHILLONG: The chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, L.G Nongsiej, on Wednesday directed all Council members to maintain decorum in the house and not interrupt an ongoing session.
The Council budget session had been interrupted on Tuesday following a war of words between UDP MDC H.S Shylla and Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) P.N Syiem. “Members should neither use unparliamentary words nor interrupt a speaker. They should respect the Chair. Members should also refrain from banging desks,” Nongsiej said. His warning had little impact, however, with banging of desks and frequent interruptions continuing on Wednesday. (Contd on P-10)

(Contd from P-3) Referring to the uproar in the house on Tuesday, HSPDP MDC P.S Syiem said local channels had showed some Council members using the term ‘ma me’ (me is an offensive way of referring to a male member), which should be expunged as it was derogatory. KHADC CEM Syiem answered 17 of the 32 questions amid the din. The executive committee will send the unanswered questions to his office.
