Party was in favour of celebration on Dec 23

SHILLONG: The State BJP on Thursday said the private motion moved by HSPDP member Ardent M. Basaiawmoit during the budget session of the Assembly on the celebration of ‘Good Governance Day’ in Meghalaya is only a plan to tarnish the image of the NDA Government.
In a statement on Thursday, David Kharsati, general secretary of the State BJP, said in fact the BJP Meghalaya unit had observed Good Governance Day on December 23.
Moreover, Kharsati said on December 11 last year, the media had reported the announcement of BJP National Spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal that Good Governance Day for Meghalaya will be observed on December 23 last year.
“So the intention of Basaiawmoit is to mislead and hurt the religious sentiments of the people of the State,” the BJP added.
The Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) also criticised the legislators opposing “Good Governance Day” stating that it was a political propaganda.
It said that “Good Governance’s Day” does not have to be strictly followed without fail but it depends on the willingness and wishes of the citizens.
Terming the allegation of Nongkrem MLA Basaiawmoit as baseless, Kurkalang said,  “It is not wise for a public leaders to mislead the common people for political gains.”
