TURA: Women health workers in Garo Hills will organise a protest rally here on March 17 in support of their counterparts in North Garo Hills who are yet to receive their four months’ salary.
Auxiliary nurse midwives and lady health visitors from all districts of Garo Hills will hold a rally at Chandmary playground in Tura and later take out a protest march from the venue to the deputy commissioner’s office. The rally will begin at 10.30 am.
The health workers from North Garo Hills have not got salary since last November. Earlier on March 4, the All Garo Hills ANM/LHV Association held a general meeting at Mendipathar CHC where it was resolved that if the department does not release the pending salary by March 15, it would go ahead with the rally.
It had also decided to go on strike in all five districts of Garo Hills if the concerned department failed to respond.
A memorandum in this regard has also been submitted to the Director of Health Services in Shillong.
