Truck association denies allegations of overloading
Shillong:The Nongal- Dobu Coal Trucks Association has denied allegations that coal trucks are overloading their trucks in complete violation of the Supreme Court order NGT guidelines.
The association in a petition to the Chief Secretary said that they neither overload nor they pay money to their drivers for bribery as alleged by NH 62 Save Mission Committee .
Stating that coal is transported in strict compliance of the Supreme Court and NGT orders. It added that the transportation of coal is not regular due to road blockades, non cooperation movements, religious celebrations etc.
The association also said that if disturbances continue, they would be forced to transport coal in 10, 12 and 16 wheeler trucks and that too for 24 hours with permission of the State Government and Supreme Court.
2nd round of Pulse Polio on Monday
SHILLONG: The inaugural function for the second round of Pulse Polio programme, which will be conducted in all districts on Monday, was held on Saturday at Ganesh Das Hospital.
The current campaign is being inaugurated by Dr D. Lyngdoh, Director of Health Services (MCH&FW) cum Joint Mission Director, National Health Mission, Meghalaya.
Children below five years are administered two drops of the oral polio vaccine (OPV). Lyngdoh appealed to all parents to take their children below 5 years of age to the nearest polio booth or health facility on Monday.
MPUF criticises JHADC indifference
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Peoples’ United Front (MPUF) on Saturday alleged that the JHADC executive members are indifferent to the needs of the people as the just concluded House session lasted only for a few hours.
The organisation also criticized the functioning of the JHADC CEM, Thombor Shiwat who gives appointment time to the public till 2 pm daily while he often comes to the office at 1 pm. MPUF has urged the JHADC members to give priority to issues of the indigenous people and to leave aside political differences.
One assaulted
SHILLONG: On March 31, around 12.30 pm, one Ador Sawian (24) of Rngi Nemg Lawjynriew, Nongthymmai, while trying to defend his mother assaulted Dr. Ahmed M Faroogi (32), Deputy Director, Office of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The issued cropped up due to some quarrel and later it was sorted out between both the parties.
Agri training to help farmers tide over eco stress
Shillong: The northeastern region often experience dry spells and calamities. Also, the soil is degraded and acidic in nature with high level of erosion. These factors severely constrain agriculture.
To combat that, a three-day training programme on agriculture and horticulture was organised at ICAR Research Complex for NEH region in Umiam.
It recorded an impressive participation by unemployed educated youth and women from villages in Ri Bhoi.
The training, which is aimed at sensitising farmers on physiological and environmental stress disorders in agriculture and horticulture, taught participants how to manage and retrieve crops scientifically under multiple environmental stresses.
Relevant inputs like crop specific micronutrients and growth hormone formulations, vermin-compost, handy farm tools and appliances and soil testing kits were distributed.
The programme was successfully co-ordinated by multi-disciplinary team of scientists.
Later, the same group will be trained in advanced strategies of crop management.
