SHILLONG: Continuing its fight against illegal activities along the India-Bangladesh border, the BSF troops on Sunday seized a number of cattle and narcotics besides arresting Bangladesh nationals.
The BSF troops deployed at Chickenbari, South West Khasi Hills launched a special operation and seized 8 kg of ganja while it was being smuggled to Bangladesh.
On the same day, once again cattle smuggling to Bangladesh was unearthed by the BSF troops who seized 56 cattle at Balughat, Beldova and Rithingpara in South West Garo Hills. The cattle were worth over Rs 4 lakh.
The BSF has claimed to have seized 163 cattle, and contraband items worth over Rs 24 lakh, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during the last four days.
In another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Barsora, South West Khasi Hills nabbed three Bangladeshi nationals while they were infiltrating from Bangladesh to India territory. They were identified as Babil Marak (28), Nishir Marak (30) and Pumur R Marak (25) residents of Berangasora village, Tikarghat post office under Tahirpur police station, Sunamganj district of Bangladesh.
During search the BSF Party seized Rs 760 Indian currency, 2 mobile phones with 4 Bangladesh SIM cards among other items.
The trio was going to collect the wages from Good Luck coal quarry at Nongjuri, South West Khasi Hills.
Skill development
Meanwhile, the BSF 26 Battalion organised skill development programme, an orientation programme for the unemployed youth of the border area at Praharinagar, Tura on Sunday.
A group of 24 youths from bordering districts of West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts joined the programme where the youths were imparted pre-recruitment training
The BSF in a statement said that this is an initiative of P K Dubey, IG BSF Meghalaya Frontier with the support of Meghalaya Government under National Skill Mission Scheme.
