Bhubaneswar, Apr 18 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived here tonight and met ailing party MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, who is also an accused in Rose Valley chit fund scam. Bandopadhyay is undergoing treatment at a hospital here. The TMC chief, who is on a three-day visit to Odisha, went to the hospital soon after landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport. “His (Sudip) physical and mental condition is bad. He is having heart problem, doctors told me. Doctors are also worried,” Mamata said after meeting him at the hospital. “Sudip da broke down. He told me how he was kept in jail. He cried. I requested the doctors to take care of him,” the Chief Minister said. “I thanked the judges for giving me permission to meet our parliamentary party leader Sudip Bandopadhyay and Tapas Pal (MP). I hope that they will get justice. We are waiting for justice,” she said. Bandopadhyay was arrested on January 3 by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the Rose Valley group chit fund scam. After his arrest in Kolkata, he was lodged in a jail in Bhubaneswar. He was hospitalised few weeks ago. While Bandopadhyay had claimed that he was innocent, Mamata had then accused the Centre of misusing the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to terrorise the opposition parties. Another TMC leader Tapas Pal is also in jail in Odisha for his alleged role in the scam. The West Bengal Chief Minister is likely to meet her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik during her visit. “If possible, there would be a meeting with Patnaik,” she said. PTI
