SHILLONG: Congress legislator A.L Hek on Sunday reminisced about the early days of his career in BJP and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his speech at the concluding ceremony of Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS).
Appreciating Modi’s “pleasant” words about the Sangha, the Pynthorumkhrah MLA said BSS is one of the most noted philanthropic organisations.
Hek, who arrived just before the PM’s speech, said he started his political career in BJP and had worked with BSS for two decades, especially with Hindu Milan Mandir at RR Colony.
Focusing on the history of BJP, Hek said Swami Pranavananda, the founder of BSS, was close to Shyamaprasad Mukherjee.
Mukherjee was asked to float a party in Varanasi and hence the Bharatiya Jana Sangh came into existence.
He recalled how the monks of BSS swung into action during the time of flood that hit his constituency in the past. While appreciating the efforts of the “Prophet of the Age”, Swami Pranavananda, and other monks, he said that this is the time for awakening, conciliation and emancipation.
The Congress leader also appreciated what was said at the ceremony about the BJP-led government at the Centre and its leadership.
Power glitch
During the course of Modi’s speech, a power glitch darkened the video-conferencing. To this, the PM said, “It looks like power supply went off at the venue. But can you all hear me although I can’t see you,” to which the audience answered in affirmative.
Purohit faith in Modi
Assam and Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit said on Sunday Modi is “god’s gift to our country” after the country failed to develop under corrupt regimes.
Purohit was hinting at the corruption in the Congress government. “You all know that there was a time if a rupee was spent by New Delhi, 25paise would reach the beneficiaries and the remaining 75paise would end up being looted,” he said.
Praising Modi’s “clean governance” Purohit said there is none on earth who can point a finger at his government. “I feel Modi is god’s gift to our country.”
