TURA: Villagers of New Mongre in North Garo Hills have alleged that they are not being able to obtain birth certificate documents from the Resubelpara Municipal Board leading to immense difficulties when it comes to seeking admission in schools and applying for jobs.
As many as 106 families have been affected by this problem and around 115 children are facing admission difficulties in schools due to non-issuance of the documents. The issue is reportedly because of confusion as to whether the area falls within Meghalaya or neighbouring Assam.
However, the inhabitants of the village have claimed to previously vote in successive MLA, MP and MDC elections in Garo Hills. Village elders had brought the matter to the notice of district administration, the Nokma of Resu A’king and the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) following which police verification of the village and its inhabitants was conducted and the Nokma had on November, last year, given his endorsement of the area falling under his A’king.
Despite those developments, the villagers are still to obtain documents certifying them as part of Garo Hills and Meghalaya.
