SHILLONG: Senior Congress leader Prestone Tynsong has denied reports that he would desert the party before the 2018 Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, the Cabinet minister said reports about his quitting the Congress are rumours.
When asked if the party is seeing BJP and NPP as threats, Tynsong said, “The election is not about threats but about winning.”
On the party’s leadership, the minister pointed out that leaders may come and go but the party will always remain. “Many have left the Congress and many have joined as well but the party is still strong in Meghalaya,” he added.
Many senior leaders in the State Congress, which has witnessed internal bickering, are reportedly looking for greener pastures. A series of meetings was also held recently where senior Cabinet ministers and MLAs, among others, had participated.
The Congress legislators are planning to quit within six months of the Assembly term ending to avoid bypolls.
