SHILLONG: The 44 Assam Rifles has started an environment awareness programme for its troops as well as residents of Mokokchung and Longleng in Nagaland.
On the occasion of World Environment Day on Monday, the Battalion Headquarter of 44 Assam Rifles at Mokokchung organised a sapling plantation and cleanliness drive. The troops were also shown a movie on the theme of ‘environment’. “Nagaland being one of the most developing states in  NE faces the challenge of maintaining the much-needed balance between development and preservation of its rich ecology,” said a statement from Assam Rifles.
