SHILLONG: A video is going viral on Facebook where a trucker is seen lying unconscious on the Jowai-Silchar Road after he was allegedly beaten up by weighbridge owners in West Jaintia Hills.
West Jaintia Hills SP R. Muthu said police have registered a case and the truck drivers were arrested after the weighbridge owners filed an FIR.
However, the truck driver, Ghulam Rassol, also filed an FIR on Tuesday saying on June 25 he and his helper, Md Shahazan Choudhary, left Malda for Silchar carrying mangoes in truck JK02 BM 3886.
On June 26, on reaching Jowai NH-44 road around 1am after crossing the 8th Mile police check post, a car came in front of his truck and asked him to stop.
Two persons came out of the car, one in Khaki uniform and the other in plain clothes.
Rasool also said in his FIR that the two men took the truck challan along with some cash and directed him to take back the truck to the 7th Mile weighbridge.
On reaching 7th Mile, those manning the weighbridge started beating his helper, Md Shahazan Choudhary.
Meanwhile, the driver and the helper of another truck (JK02 BL 3212), which was passing by at that moment, came at Shahazan’s rescue but were also beaten up.
Muthu said the man in uniform who allegedly manhandled the driver was a home guard who was manning the weighbridge.
Police said that one of the truckers sustained grievous injuries.
The video shows that one of the truckers, a young boy, is lying unconscious on the road while police personnel are trying to wake him up. It also shows another trucker being apprehended by the cops.
