JOWAI: Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo, while inaugurating a workshop in Jowai, informed that the government is taking all measures to see that proper implementation of the National Food Security Act in the State.
Laloo who attended the workshop cum awareness programme which was organised by the Meghalaya State Food Commission at District Library Auditorium on Friday said that the Meghalaya State Food Commission was constituted to keep a close watch on NSFA implementation.
“The implementation of the National Food Security Act is to ensure food security and nutritional security is being accessed to adequate quantity or quality of food at affordable price in the State” Laloo said.
He also informed that the State has distributed 10,800 metric tons of rice to 21.50 lakh family monthly through retail price shops. There are 278 whole sellers and 4716 government fair price shops in Meghalaya.
While speaking on the delayed of handling charges to whole sellers and fair price shops, Laloo informed that the government has released a sanction of Rs. 30.45 crores for payment of handling charge to all whole sellers and fair price shops in the State.
“The reason for the delay is due to the new law passed by the central government and it takes time to properly examine the law so that no mistake is committed in implementing the scheme,” he added.
The Deputy CM also expressed that NFSA has been a success in the State because of the helping hand and support of whole sellers and the fair price shops.
Others who attended the workshop were Chairman of State Food Commission, B.K Verma, Member of State Food Commission, L Kharkongor beside East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, MS Lhuid, Director FCS &CA, I.R Sangma, SDO Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, I Laloo, ADD, CS Laloo besides teachers, whole sellers and fair price shop dealers from East and West Jaintia Hills.
