SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has expressed shock over inclusion of MLA Julias Dorphang who is faces rape charge and now under judicial custody, as a member of the Privilege and the Subordinate Legislation panels of the State Assembly and questioned decision of the State Assembly.

In a Press statement, the MSCW asserted that his nomination reflected the insensitivity of the State Government in dealing with the crime he has committed and that the decision of the state government has hurt the sentiments of the women and girls of the state.

“The Meghalaya State Commission for Women is utterly dismayed at this decision given that charges have been framed against Dorphang and the matter is sub-judice,” the statement stated.

It may be mentioned that Dorphang was arrested last year after he had allegedly raped a minor girl on two occasions.
