They pointed out that teachers in the higher secondary level are paid Rs 15,000 per month. According to the lecturers, the current enrolment of students in the first semester is more than 1,900 besides the third and the fifth semesters, which come to 790 and 399 students, respectively. But the student-teacher ratio in the college’s morning shift is poor and this has increased the burden on the existing lecturers. Besides, the introduction of the semester system has also added to their woes as duties have increased in the form of conducting examinations, they said. Reminding that they have been rendering their services with dedication since 2008, the teachers have urged officials concerned to look into their grievances. Copies of their complaint have also been forwarded to the chief minister, the education minister and other officials concerned.
