SHILLONG: The KHNAM will intensify its protest against the State Government’s delay in issuing appointment letters to qualified jugalis by August 2.
On the last day of the protest on Friday, KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah told reporters, “We will wait till Tuesday and we demand that appointment letters should be given to all qualified jugalis before August 2. If the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) does not take the matter seriously, we will start an indefinite agitation.”
Slamming Power Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Passah said, “If he cannot perform his responsibilities as the power minister, he should leave the portfolio and instead reach out to his constituency.”
Lambasting MeECL as ‘immature’, Passah said, “If MeECL is facing financial constraints, why is there a need to create a post? It is an immature decision.”
Over 466 jugalis had staged a demonstration from Thursday at the Additional Secretariat Parking lot.
MeECL has scheduled the appointment in three phases with 336 appointments under phase-I and 233 each for phases II and III. However, the appointment of jugalis under phases II and III is still pending.
The youth wing has taken legal course as well after it filed a writ petition which is underway in the court.
