SHILLONG: After losing the cabinet berth, the Dhar brothers are determined to secure four seats in the 2018 Assembly polls which will be beneficial to whichever party they will join prior to the polls.
Though the axed cabinet minister, Sniawbhalang from Nartiang constituency and his brother and MLA Ngaitlang Dhar have not declared whether they will change the political affiliations, indications are that they may shift their allegiance to NPP.
Party sources said on Saturday that Sniawbhalang was sacked primarily for backing his brother-in-law, W. Shylla to contest from Jowai which is currently represented by Deputy chief minister RC Laloo.
Infact, the block congress committee of Jowai supported by Laloo had demanded action against Sniawbhalang.
Sources close to the influential Dhar brothers said that while Sniawbhalang and Ngaitlang will seek re-election from Nartiang and Umroi respectively, the duo will try hard to ensure the win of their relatives.
While R.C Laloo will contest from Jowai on a Congress ticket, the brother-in-law of Sniawbhalang will have no other option than to contest against Laloo.
Ngaitlang’s son, D. Lamare (25), is another candidate which the family is preparing to contest from Mawhati constituency.
