SHILLONG: The process of signing the agreement between National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PWD Meghalaya and the consultant is on for the proposed two-lane road stretches from Nongstoin to Wahkaji.
As per the status report of the NHIDCL, the bid for civil work has been invited with the due date on June 28 this year.
Presently, the minutes of the High Powered Committee is being awaited from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
The report also says that the approval of modified cost estimate for the process has been sent to the MoRTH and administrative approval is being awaited.
The construction of the 43.06 km road is to be taken up at a total project cost of Rs 365.66 crores including land acquisition. M/s Chaitanaya Projects Consulting Pvt. Ltd. is the contractor of the project.
About the upgradation of Wahkaji – Phlangdiloin – Ranikor and Domiasiat– Mawthabah road into two lanes, the status report said that the Final DPR had been submitted by the consultant to State PWD last year.
“The proposal for signing of agreement between NHIDCL, PWD Meghalaya and consultant is under process.,” the report added
The 35 km road is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 259.37 crores.
The KSU and other NGOs have been opposing the road projects which, according to them, are meant for facilitating uranium mining in the State.
The NGOs wants the government to repair the existing road instead of constructing a new road.
