Flash flood, landslide create havoc in WKH

NONGSTOIN: A flash flood accompanied by heavy landslide occurred in many parts of West Khasi Hills (WKH) District on Friday due to heavy rainfall that has continued for five days.

Several families living next to Nondein River have shifted as they have been hit hard by the heavy rain in Nongstoin. Road communication has also been affected in Kynshi and Nongstoin- Mawkyrwat road that was clogged due to traffic congestion for several hours.

A heavy landslide occurred at main Nongstoin town at Nonbah taxi stand which also cause traffic congestion in the whole of Nongstoin. As PWD Road of Division at Nongstoin could deploy only one truck and one JCB to clear the debris from the taxi stand, the work continued till late evening.

The landslides also occurred in many corners in the district.  The PWD department failed to clear the landslide-hit roads from the petrol pump to upper new Nongstoin, from New Nongstoin to Nondein near the residence of the  Syiem of Nongstoin.
