Lifting of indefinite shutdown in Darjeeling to get priority in GJM central committee meeting : Binay Tamang

Siliguri/Kurseong:  Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM ) leader Binay Tamang today said calling off the indefinite Darjeeling shutdown, which entered the 80th day, would get priority in the party’s central committee meeting to be convened shortly when they will brief the outcome of all parties meeting held at Nabanna,chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on August 29.
Mr Tamang, who headed the 5-member GJM team in the government- sponsored first ever meeting seeking some way out to restore normalcy in the hills, told reporters at Bagdogra airport that the GJM would also hold a rally at Kurseong today before a party leadership meeting on recent development in the rank and files of the party.
Incidentally Mr Tamang, whose house was allegedly ransacked by the security forces during a search operation in the midnight recently, was escorted by the securitymen of state police right from the Bagdogra airport to Kurseong.
There was a veiled threat, even from GJM supremo Bimal Gurung saying whoever found compromising with the statehood demand during talk with the State Government would not be allowed to return to the hills.
Answering questions, Mr Tamang said there was no rift in the GJM leadership and between him and Mr Gurung.
” I have been one of the founder members of the GJM since inception in 2007 and assistant general secretary and there is no question of any new outfit in the hills, ” Mr Tamang said.
He said he would brief the outcome of the August 29 meeting in the GJM central committee meeting in which the lifting of indefinite shutdown would be decided keeping in view the ground reality of the situation.
” We have also responsibility and accountability to the people for maintaining peace and normalcy in then hills with continuing political struggle for statehood, ” Mr Tamang maintained.
Meanwhile, from an undisclosed location GJM supremo Bimal Gurung reportedly said Mr Tamang and Anit Thapa, who also attended the all parties meeting at Nabanna, were conspiring with the State Government against the GJM.
Mr Gurung also urged the people to remain united for the struggle for statehood.(UNI)
