NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia University announced a doctoral programme in North East India Studies on Friday.
The newly launched doctoral programme, PhD and MPhil in North East India Studies, is for postgraduates who want to pursue research studies in the fields of literature, history, geography, sociology, ecology, developmental studies, economics, politics and governance of North East India and its neighbourhood.
It also encourages research on comparative study of the North East and other parts of India, a spokesman of the varsity said.
The larger vision of the programme is to develop a cadre of scholars pursuing and developing advanced interdisciplinary doctoral research in a variety of topics on the region and its periphery. It also aims at creating a bridge between field and policy in the North East and the rest of India.
The pool of think tanks that the programme will create will be of great help for the “Act East” and “Neighbourhood First” policies, which the Government is trying to expedite. This will also come to the aid of regional groupings like SAARC, BIMSTECX and ASEAN.
