SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills police are on the hunt for a vehicle which is allegedly being used by a dog selling racket in the Dawki area.
Sources said that Facebook posts have helped in alerting the police in Dawki about the vehicle which was allegedly used to smuggle dogs. Accordingly, the police set up a team to conduct checks in the area.
The dogs are suspected to be from East Jaintia Hills and being smuggled to Aizawl. They were meant to be sold for dog meat worth around Rs 500. However, later it was informed that the dogs were recovered from Khliehriat  in East Jaintia Hills. Animal rights activists from Jowai and Guwahati assisted the police.
