SHILLONG: UDP legislator Remington Pyngrope will join NPP and his decision has been conveyed to the NPP leadership.
NPP state president W.R Kharlukhi indicated this on Thursday.
However, Pyngrope was not available for comments. He will be the first UDP MLA to shift allegiance.
Earlier in July, after the allotment of seats by the UDP-HSPDP coalition, Pyngrope was unhappy since the coalition had decided to field an HSPDP candidate in Mawkynrew constituency represented by him.
What irked the two-time legislator was that the UDP leadership did not give ear to his request to keep Mawkynrew free for UDP so that HSPDP would not put up any candidate.
Deadline extended
Kharlukhi said though the deadline to collect the application forms from Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi was from October 18 to 25, it was extended to November 2.
Till date, the party received as many as 17 applications from Khasi-Jaintia Hills. While there are three applicants from Mawshynrut, two are from Ranikor.
This is in addition to the seats of seven MLAs and three MDCs who will soon join the party.
While the party has completed the process of receiving applications from 23 seats of Garo Hills except Ampati, the process in Khasi Hills would be completed by November first week.
Kharlukhi said the first list of candidates would be released by party’s national president Conrad Sangma on November 9.
