SHILLONG: The Social and Economic Life Development Department (SELDD) will organise Festival of Peace on December 2 at Lyngktop Field in Mawphlang to strengthen the bond among the diverse communities of the state.
SELDD is one of the departments of the KJP Synod Sepngi. Chairman Rev. WC Khongwir said the festival seeks to delve into certain aspects of the indigenous people like their strength and the need to revive, preserve and cultivate their culture.
“Recognition is given to the fact that growth and development has taken place within the Khasi community but with this change the tendency to forget, overlook and dismiss the wisdom of the past has also crept in,” he said.
Khongwir informed that Festival of Peace will bring together the whole Khasi community irrespective of the diverse faith.
During the festival, there will be performances of traditional musical instruments by the Assembly Institute of Music, traditional dance by the Seng Khasi (Seng Kmie) and Sein Raij (Seng Kmie), traditional skit: Catholic Church, Shillong Diocese, traditional/cultural dress show and Phawar Khasi, among others.
Commenting on the contentious issue of Aadhaar, AC Lymba said, “We from the Synod side right from 2015 has circulated a writing on this matter to all the church units where we have clarified not to link Aadhaar with the 666 from the Bible and that there is no connection.”
He added that enrolment is voluntary and not mandatory.
