SHILLONG: In a pleasant coincidence, Millennium Grace Marwein from South West Khasi Hills has figured in the category of ‘millennium’ voters who will be eligible to vote for the 2018 polls.
The deputy commissioner of South West Khasi Hills has stumbled upon a female voter identified as Millennium Grace, born on January 1, 2000.
Hailing from Mawlangwir village in Mawkyrwat, Grace is one among the 12 millennium voters identified by the deputy commissioner.
Chief electoral officer Frederick Kharkongor said all the deputy commissioners have started identifying the millennium voters born on January 1, 2000 in the state.
According to Kharkongor, the year 2000 is considered as the millennium year and those who were born in January that year will turn 18 in January next and they will be eligible to vote.
“For the first time, the millennium voters will get an opportunity to participate in the electoral process and exercise franchise. We will felicitate them during the celebration of National Voters’ Day on January 25,” he said.
“The status of millennium voters in the state will be available at the end of November as the deputy commissioners are on the job to identify them,” he said.
