Cattle worth Rs 4.5 lakh seized

SHILLONG: Acting on a tip off, Amlarem police on Saturday seized 30 cattle with market value of approx Rs 4.5 lakh at Rs 15,000 each which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
SDPO, Amlarem, West Jaintia Hills, Jason Mairom said that police received a tip that one truck (AS01 DC 0177) covered with trampoline was transporting cattle which were to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
The police intercepted the vehicle at Syndai-Muktapur road close to the Bangladesh  border and seized the truck. The driver was identified as Md Mukit Laskar of Cachar Assam and five others were also arrested.
The arrested persons have been identified as Qif Uddin, Mahidul Islam , Bilal Ahmed , all hailing from Assam and  Embor Lakachiang of Dawki village.
Police said that Embor is the local mastermind of cattle smuggling who has been in police radar for some time and he was the one facilitating smuggling from India.
Necessary action as per law is being taken against the arrested persons.
