SHILLONG: The upcoming Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong has been delayed by 31 months and the new deadline for completion of the project is December 2018.
The project was sanctioned on January 28, 2013, and the scheduled date for completion was March 2015. The project is being taken up at a cost of Rs 48 crore with North Eastern Council (NEC) share of Rs 43 crore.
The first three installments of almost Rs 11 crore have been utilised and the fourth tranche of Rs 10 crore was issued on September 18 this year.
The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots located in Shillong since most parking places are used by inter-state buses and would accommodate 150-200 buses.
Meanwhile, the ISBT in Tura has been completed for almost a year but it is still awaiting its formal inauguration.
