Police vigilance causes traffic snarls in JH

JOWAI: Checking on coal laden trucks by West Jaintia Hills Police at Phramer has created inconvenient to commuters along the National Highway- Jowai- Bardarpur Road on Wednesday and Thursday evening.
Sources alleged that truckers rush during night hours causing traffic jam right from Kong-ong till Phramer Police check gate.
Sources also alleged that Police on duty has tried to demand huge amount of money from those truckers who are found to transport coal without valid transit challans. “The drivers alleged the Police of demanding money and the Police are alleging the Driver for illegal transportation of coal, whom to believe”, said a prominent person who called up this scribe.
The traffic jam has also affected families who want to rush their sick relatives to health centres via Ambulance. Former MDC from East Jaintia Hills requested the SP, WJH to take up the matter with his fellow district police officers and staff.
