SHILLONG: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the star campaigner of BJP, will harp on the need to have a change in the 2018 polls when he kicks off the party’s election campaign in the State on December 16.
Modi will address the party’s election rally at Polo Grounds in the afternoon and he will also officially open the new party office at Bivar road.
BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav, who is in Shillong to oversee party’s preparations for polls and the visit of Modi told newspersons on Saturday that the rally will mark the launch of BJP’s election campaign in Meghalaya.
“We are going to the people with the slogan that Meghalaya deserves a change. Meghalaya should be free from corruption and misrule of the Congress. “Meghalaya for change will be our main slogan for the people of the State,” Madhav said.
According to Madhav, since the rally will be the commencing event of the election campaign in the state, he urged the people to participate and listen to the Prime Minister and his message to the people.
Besides several central ministers, the Chief Ministers of the BJP ruled States in the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland will also attend the rally.
“The rally must have already given you a sense of how seriously we are entering into the election fray in the state,” Madhav said.
The BJP leader said the party is going to fight the election in Meghalaya with utmost seriousness because “we strongly feel that the state should be freed from the corrupt and inept governance and misrule of Mukul Sangma for more than a decade”.
According to the BJP leader, Meghalaya and its people deserve better.
The BJP leader also chaired the core committee meeting of the party at the party office regarding the visit of the Prime Minister.
Leaders to join BJP
The BJP leader also said that several MLAs and party leaders are in touch with BJP.
“We are here and the BJP is here before the people of Meghalaya as an alternative for a better and brighter future of the State. With this message, we are going to reach out to the people. I am happy to tell that a large number of leaders from different parts of the State are keen to join and support BJP”, Madhav said.
“They want to sail with us and want to strengthen and support the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in our endeavour for
a better Meghalaya after the elections”, he said.
The BJP leader hoped that a good number of political leaders of different parties would join BJP when Prime Minister visits here on December 16 and afterwards.
“We are in touch with good number of different leaders in the State from different parties and also leaders in their own right. We welcome all of them to join the BJP as party’s doors are always open to right thinking and good leaders in the State”, he said.
Madhav wanted social leaders, professionals, and eminent citizens also to support BJP.
“We welcome all of them whole heartedly for a change, for a better and brighter Meghalaya”, he said.
Appeal to religious leaders
The BJP leader also made an appeal to all the religious leaders in the State including the followers of indigenous faith to bless the endeavour of BJP to effect a change in the State.
“I request all the religious, spiritual and tribal leaders in the State to support BJP”, he said.
