GSU Ri Bhoi gets ambulance
NONGPOH: Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma has given an ambulance to the Garo Students Union’s Ri Bhoi unit at a function in Byrnihat. The ambulance was donated by Badhok Nongmalieh, a prominent businessman and young leader of the district for the people of Jirang constituency. Sangma lauded the initiative of Nongmalieh and his contribution.
Street magic for charity
SHILLONG: Magician John Lanong and his friends will conduct a street magic show at Khyndai Lad in support of orphans to enable them to celebrate Christmas. The street magic will be held near Chowdhury Pharmacy from 10 am to 8 am on December 22. People have been requested to make their contributions in the form of cash or kind.
865 villages get electricity
SHILLONG: Most of the unelectrified villages in Meghalaya have been electrified so far under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. According to the Garv Dashboard, 865 villages out of the 912 unelectrified villages have been electrified while the electrification of 35 others is under process. As far as districts are concerned, 22 more villages are to be electrified in East Garo Hills, followed by two in South Garo Hills and 11 in West Khasi Hills.
Alliance coordination panel soon
MAWKYRWAT: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) will form a coordination committee here soon to strengthen the alliance for the next assembly elections. Official sources said the UDP Mawkyrwat circle will hold a general meeting on December 19 to appoint a permanent president and secretary after the removal of Tyngshain Kharlyngdoh and Bateibok Marbanniang from the respective posts for not supporting the alliance candidate, Renikton L. Tongkhar.
Tura Winter Youth Fest begins
TURA: The three-day Tura Winter Youth Festival got under way at the Dikki Bandi Stadium here on Monday, showcasing the rich A’chik culture while offering youths a platform to enhance their skills. Inaugurating the fest, West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, Ram Singh said the festival would usher in peaceful atmosphere ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
