SHILLONG: Former minister and Pynthorumkhrah legislator, AL Hek has asked chief minister Mukul Sangma to review the process of getting permissions for construction of houses and electricity connections by residents of areas outside municipal areas.
Residents of such areas have continued to face problems for permissions in regard to building construction and power connections.
“I have recently asked the chief minister to review the matter and he agreed to review it,” Hek told reporters here on Tuesday. According to the MLA, it is the responsibility of every legislator to provide basic requirements to people and reach out to them. “People outside municipal areas are facing lot of difficulties to obtain permission first of all to construct buildings and then to get permission for electricity,” he said.
While asking the government to ensure that people are not troubled while seeking necessary permissions, Hek maintained that necessary auditing for safety purpose of the buildings was necessary since the city was under seismic zone V. He said after completion of the house, the next process is to supply electricity. “People after paying the necessary fees to the government should own the electric poles which are connected to the house. They have to buy poles and so that should belong to the individuals and not the government,” the legislator said.
