Eight MLAs to join NPP today

SHILLONG: Eight legislators will join the National People’s Party (NPP) at a public rally at Polo Fifth ground on Thursday.
The eight legislators are Congress rebels Rowell Lyngdoh (Mawkyrwat), Sniawbhalang Dhar (Nartiang), Comingone Ymbon (Raliang), Prestone Tynsong (Pynursla), and Ngaitlang Dhar (Umroi), former UDP member Remington Pyngrope (Mawkynrew) and Independent candidates Hopeful Bamon (Sutnga-Saipung) and Stephanson Mukhim (Amlarem).
The party will also announce the names of 51 candidates at the rally that will start at 11am.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, state NPP president WR Kharlukhi said the number of candidates may increase to 53-54 as the party is yet to find out candidates from Khliehriat and Mawthadraishan.
“We are trying for good candidates and after this, probably will announce 2-3 more seats. We will not field candidate in the constituency that will help the Congress,” he said without revealing the names of any candidates.
“Firstly, our target is see that we win the elections and secondly is to see that Congress loses,” the party president added.
