NONGSTOIN: Even as complaints of blatant extortion at Maweit toll gate in West Khasi Hills grow louder and more frequent, the government is yet to take any action till date.
Earlier, the district truckers’ body complained of an illegal toll gate that had been set up by the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong of Maweit. Those manning the gate demand that truck drivers cough up Rs 50 per trip. The toll gate came into existence after a Supreme Court order to allow transportation of extracted coal in Meghalaya.
Although the truckers’ body filed an FIR on December 17, no action has been taken by either the District Association or the state government. The association, on its part, demands immediate action against the illegal toll gate.
