SHILLONG: Central observer from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rakesh Sinha, has launched a scathing attack against BJP for resorting to money power, saying the saffron party has no base in the state despite some legislators joining it.
Sinha asserted that BJP was covering its failures through money power, putting up banners and posters.
“They can paint entire Shillong and Meghalaya with their posters but they will not be able to influence the voters of Meghalaya. BJP is trying to influence the people of Meghalaya by its might,” he said.
The AAP leader contended that BJP should answer the question posed by the voters of Meghalaya who want a reply on what the party has done in the past three and a half years for the state.
Sinha went on to add that the crores of money spent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the money spent to put up posters and banners in the state, does not transform into votes.
Commenting on the ruling Congress in the state, Sinha asserted he does not see any chances for Congress to retain power in the state.
He observed that the elections were an opportunity for the state to pave the way for a new system represented by AAP as he puts it. “It is good news for Meghalaya if AAP plans to contest the elections,” he added.
Select people favoured
Sinha, who is also the chief advisor to Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal alleged that business houses led by the Ambanis and Adanis are behind BJP’s money power.
“BJP is a pro-industrialist party, pro-corporate party, pro-Adani party, pro-Ambani party. It believes in catering to select people who are already in the rich group. It has nothing to do with marginalised people. It does social, political and other manipulative engineering to get votes,” he said.
He went on to accuse BJP of breaking the deprived sections into different groups to get votes.
Pointing out that AAP is a pro-people party, he said the party does not believe in giving false promises and slogans where “every account will have Rs 15 lakh and there will be 2 crore jobs.”
Sinha contended that the country has suffered in the hands of BJP whereas he indicated that the aim of AAP was to provide basic facilities and inalienable rights to the people.
“It is not about vikas (development). Development is vague. It has to be seen on the ground and it has to be measurable, quantifiable and tangible,” he said.
Dismissing the much-hyped bullet train in Gujarat, the home state of PM Modi, as eyewash, Sinha said the train does not represent development.
