SHILLONG:  Sohra, the wettest place on earth, is definitely a place to reckon with natural beauty and cool breeze which welcomes every visitor with a chill. But somehow tourists visiting the place feel that the they are over charged on many accounts.

Sohra is definitely a brand which   requires no publicity but tourists going there feel that some interventions are required in the area to make things reasonably priced.

Some tourists from Assam said that they   wanted to stay in Sohra for a night but the rooms were priced exorbitantly even though they admitted that the trend was same at every tourist destination in the country where everything is expensive.

Another tourist, K Bhattacharjee from West Bengal told reporters   the place was absolutely scenic with   excellent roads and   smiling people but somehow the price of the things was on the higher side.

He while citing an example said that   the small parking lot in Mawkdok immediately charges Rs 20 from each and every vehicle parked which is quite high.

“I am sure parking even in a busy place like Shillong is not so expensive,” he said.

Agreeing that the people of the area survive on tourism, another tourist from Assam, Ranjit Borthakur said that even other items in the area were expensive while giving an example that simple Maggie there cost anything between Rs 40-50 per plate

Meanwhile, it was seen that the   flow of tourists on Tuesday in Sohra was comparatively less compared to the usual surge of tourists around this time of the year and some local shopkeepers said that the tourist flow usually went down after the New Year.

“It will again pick up from March April,” a shopkeeper said.

Tourists also appreciated the excellent road condition right from Shillong till Sohra as they feel that it is a heaven as every person visiting there would be in company of nature with brilliant roads.
