SHILLONG: Altogether 443 candidates from different political parties and independents have filed nominations to contest the February 27 Assembly polls in Meghalaya. The process of filing of nomination came to an end on Wednesday. One hundred twenty-eight candidates  filed their nominations on the last day.

In Shillong, top leader including Manas Chaudhuri from Congress filed his nomination while Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma filed his nomination from Songsak constituency.

Most of the top leaders from different political parties including Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, AL Hek, Ardent Basaiawmoit, PN Syiem, Paul Lyngdoh, Saleng Sangma and others have already filed their nominations for the polls.

The scrutiny of nominations will be held on Thursday while the last day for withdrawal of nominations is slated for February 12.

This year, the filing of nominations was more chaotic as far as traffic management was concerned in Shillong as each and every candidate in their attempt to show off their strength, brought hundreds of supporters along which ultimately led to huge traffic jams throughout the town.
