New Bhaitbari-Peradanga road in WGH done upto granular sub-base level

SHILLONG: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road from New Bhaitbari to Peradanga in West Garo Hills had been completed upto granular sub-base level.

As for the question of black topping of the road, he said that the road had been proposed for black topping (stage II) during 2018-19 and proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development under 2017-18 Batch II and was awaiting sanction.

On being asked by Congress MLA, Azad Zaman as to when the sanction would be accorded, Tynsong said that the department was waiting for sanction as accorded by the Ministry of Rural Development following which the PWD department would take necessary steps for implementation of the proposal.

Congress MLA Zenith Sangma asked as to how many more roads were pending to be converted to black topping for which the Minister said that he required notice.

Replying to a query by Congress MLA PT Sawkmie, Tynsong said that the amount of money sanction back then was Rs 55 lakh.

Another Congress MLA Charles Pyngrope asked Tynsong whether the PMGSY also include granular sub base and black topping.

Tynsong said that there was no such consideration for black topping upto the level of Granular sub base level (GSBL) from the Phase I to Phase V.

He added that after the phase was complete, the Ministry would open the gate for proposal for the roads would include metalling and black topping.

Replying to a query by Sangma, the Minister said that the estimated cost of upgradation was Rs 88.9 lakh.
