Electioneering gains momentum for Williamnagar polls

SHILLONG:   The campaigning by the political parties has gained momentum in Williamnagar Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) where election is scheduled for elections on April 27

Leaders of some political parties said that presently, their candidates were campaigning in the constituency on their own and all the top leaders of from different political parties would hit the campaign trail as soon as the Assembly session gets over on April 20

When contacted, NCP working president, Vijay Raj said that the top leaders of the party are also likely to campaign in the constituency after April 21.

The NCP has fielded the wife of Late NCP candidate Johnathone Sangma who was killed just before the February 27 Assembly polls that resulted in adjournment of election in the constituency.

On the other hand, NPP state president, WR Kharlukhi said that the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma would also campaign for the party candidate after the Assembly session.

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) F R Kharkongor said that he had a review of preparation for the elections in the constituency recently.

“The district is prepared with 100 EVMs and the threat perception has decreased,” he said adding that district authorities are well prepared for holding the elections.

There are as many as nine candidates in the fray in Williamnagar including Marcuise N Marak (NPP), Deborah C Marak (INC), Mahamsing M Sangma (UDP), Sengbath R Marak (Independent), Lahatson N Marak (Independent), Santosh R Marak (BJP), Siljong R Marak (Independent) and Jan N Arengh (Independent) and Krinilla R. Marak (NCP),

The Williamngar constituency which is represented by Congress MLA Deborah Marak, has a total voter of 32021 including 16567 males and 15454 females.

It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya State Election department has sought four companies of the Central Armed Paramilitary forces (CAPF) for holding election to the Williamnagar Assembly constituency scheduled for April 27
