TURA: The All Garo Hills Pre-Primary School Teachers’ Association (AGHPPSTA) has urged the state government to implement the High Court order with regard to payment of arrears at par with their LP school counterparts without further delay.

A case was filed by the teachers in this regard in the year 2015. During a hearing on May 17 last year the court ruling had ordered that Pre Primary school teachers are given the same facilities as the lower primary school teachers.

“Since Primary schools and Pre-Primary schools both fall under the ambit of the District Council Lower Primary Schools (DCLP), the benefits which Primary School Teachers are enjoying, some of which should be given Pre-Primary School teachers. Differentiating them, amounts to violation of Article 14 of the Indian Constitution and therefore, the concerned authority is directed to give the same benefits to Pre-Primary School teachers as the Primary school teachers,” the order had read.

Soon after the order was given, the teachers had made repeated request and served a number of memorandums to the previous government for the implementation of the order. However, all appeals and requests made fell on deaf ears with the government refusing to act on their demand.

This time round the teachers have submitted a reminder of their memorandum to the Director of School Education and Literacy in Shillong urging him to act on the order failing which, they threatened to approach the HC to get their genuine grievances addressed.

Copies of the reminder have also been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department.
