SHILLONG: Opposition leader Mukul Sangma said on Thursday that “BJP and its associates” were trying to poach MLAs from the Congress and asserted that the NPP-led government would fall at any time.
Sangma told reporters after a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in the evening that the saffron party was resorting to similar tactics as it did in Manipur, Goa and Arunachal Pradesh.
“We are aware of their plot and conspiracy and they are engaging in corrupt activities with complete disregard to the true spirit of democracy and the mandate of the people and their efforts have vitiated the political environment,” said the former chief minister, adding that the party “is prepared to face all challenges and it will handle them”.
Two BJP members, AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai are supporting the NPP-led government.
Sangma’s remark comes in the wake of reports about senior Congress leader and Ranikor MLA Martin M Danggo expressing his willingness to join NPP.
When asked if the party would take any action against Danggo, the CLP chief said it would work on the best appropriate action and that the party cannot divulge the plan at the moment.
He also said Danggo “is yet to decide and the party has been updated on certain things and it will proceed accordingly”.
Taking a dig at the ruling MDA coalition government, Sangma said it would fall anytime. “It is as simple as that. You can read in between the lines,” the former chief minister added.
