SHILLONG: BSF troops deployed at Mukamchera in East Khasi Hills detected a Bolero pickup (ML-05-P-1529) near the international border on Thursday evening.
BSF personnel intercepted the vehicle and nabbed three cattle smugglers who were attempting to transport 4 cattle to Bangladesh.
The cattle smugglers were identified as Meban Myniew (21), Bahattuh Dkhar (22) and Hynbien (20). All three smugglers are residents of Lawbah village in Mawsynram. The BSF also seized the Bolero pickup.
In another incident BSF troops deployed at Tuka, Nayabazar, Umsiyem, Muktapur, and OP Shella seized more than 50 cattle while being smuggled out to Bangladesh from India.
However, the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness and dense bushes.
So far, BSF troops have seized 170 cattle worth more than 33 lakh in the past week.
The BSF has for the past few months intensified its operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent trans-border crimes.
Apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to the concern departments for further legal action.
