SHILLONG: Former Ranikor legislator Martin M Danggo will be appointed as co-chairman of the State Planning Board (SPB), Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader Prestone Tynsong has said.
Danggo resigned from the Congress as well as the post of MLA and he would seek re-election as an NPP candidate in the by-election. Earlier, it was reported that he may become the chief whip of the ruling MDA in place of Agatha Sangma.
One has to be an elected representative to become the chief whip of the government.
“We will discuss on the appointment of the government chief whip after the by-election in Ranikor,” Tynsong said here on Tuesday.
When asked if Danggo would be a common candidate in the Ranikor by-poll, Tynsong said NPP would welcome if the alliance partners agree to support the party’s official candidate.
He, however, maintained that NPP has not asked their alliance partners to support the official candidate of the party and asserted that the allies are free to put up candidates not only in Ranikor but even in South Tura.
“We left to the wisdom of the alliance partners to take a call on this issue… We should understand that every political party has its own ideology. Therefore, it is important for all individual parties to contest the election,” he added.
When asked about the move of PDF chairman P.N Syiem to project a common candidate of the supporters and leaders of various parties in Ranikor constituency, Tynsong said it would not be right on his part to comment on this.
“But as a political leader, he is free to take any step which is in the best interest of his party,” he added.
