SHILLONG: Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad Sangma, who is gearing up for the South Tura by-polls, will appeal to the coalition partners to support his candidature.
South Tura legislator Agatha Sangma tendered her resignation from the Meghalaya Assembly earlier this month to pave way for her brother to get elected to the Assembly.
Conrad has to contest the by-poll and get elected as an MLA to continue as the chief minister of the state.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, the chief minister said he was leaving for Tura where the party would meet.
The meeting will be attended by regional as well as constituency leaders of NPP.
“It will be our request and we will appeal to the coalition partners to support us but decision will be entirely theirs,” Sangma told reporters.
When asked if South Tura by-poll would be a cakewalk for him, Conrad said no election is easy and every party gives its best to win.
