SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya wanted the state government to ensure supply of safe drinking water to the people in the context of reports that water has oily substances.
During the hearing of the pending PIL filed by Tilok Dasgupta on Wednesday, the division bench of the court said it appears that there are various areas required to be taken care of by the respondent authorities for ensuring supply of safe drinking water to the people.
After going through various affidavits, the court said the counsel for the respondents will file the latest status regarding implementation of various schemes and also to indicate therein, as to how many areas are being supplied safe drinking water and also “it shall be specifically made clear whether it is the fact that the water supply through the municipal pipes is affected by oily substances and deposition of particles”.
The requisite affidavit will have to be filed within three weeks.
