SHILLONG: The PHE Department has initiated the process of ranking districts under a nationwide programme known as Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2018 (SSG2018), a survey of the overall cleanliness status of villages that has been commissioned by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, as part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission.
The programme was launched at the state level here on Friday by WR Lyngdoh, Secretary to the Govt of Meghalaya who is also the director for Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh briefed the gathering on the concept and objectives of the SSG2018 as a follow-up of the progress made by the state in the sanitation sector.
A Lyngkhoi, state coordinator for Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), highlighted the modalities of the survey and informed that similar programmes will be held at district, block and village levels.
An independent survey agency has already been appointed by the Centre for conducting the survey in August.
The survey team will undertake a sampling survey of selected villages in which samples of households, schools, anganwadi centres, churches, market places and public places will be visited to assess their cleanliness status. Besides, citizens’ feedback will be taken and added to the overall findings of the survey. The Prime Minister will present national awards to top performing districts on October 2.
