Wrestler rapes woman
Kohima: A wrestler was arrested for allegedly raping a non-Naga woman at Kevuoliezha on the outskirts of the Nagaland capital, the police said on Sunday. Zasituo Tsukru had raped the woman, a mother of two children, when her husband was away on August two. He was caught by locals and handed him over to the police yesterday, they said. A women’s organisation filed a complaint with the police. Acting on it, the man was arrested from the D Khel Kohima village. (PTI)
BJP kick starts preparations for Lok Sabha polls in Tripura
Agartala: The chairman of Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, finance minister of Assam are scheduled to hold a meeting with the state BJP leaders on August 9 next to discuss the preparations for upcoming general election. The meeting, which will be held in Agartala, will have ministers, legislators, BJP candidates defeated in the last assembly poll and the leaders of the different wings. The BJP leaders said on Sunday that party’s organizing secretary for northeast Ajay Jamoal had several rounds of the meeting with the chief minister, BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb and the election in-charges of both the Lok Sabha seats of Tripura besides, top leaders of the party. He held separate meetings with West Tripura Lok Sabha election in-charge, Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman, East Tripura Lok Sabha election in-charge and Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath. (UNI)
Left MPs accuse Tripura govt of deteriorating law and order
Agartala: A parliamentary delegation of left parties have accused the ruling BJP-IPFT government in Tripura for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and sought attention of the government to secure life and property of the people. The delegation included Ashok Dhawale President of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), Medha Patkar, Convener of NAPM, Rajaram Singh, General Secretary of AIKS, Raju Shetty President of Shetkari Sanghatana, K K Ragesh MP and Joint Secretary AIKS and Parliament members from Tripura, Jitendra Choudhury, Sankar Prasad Datta and Jharna Das Baidya. They alleged that CPI-M leaders and workers have been victim of violence, atrocity, physical torture and economic sufferings in the state. There is no environment of democracy in the state and CPI-M workers are being attacked every day. The members of delegation further said,”Mid-day-meal workers for cooking have been sacked from their posts, the welfare of the farmers in the state are on stake.” They said greater agitation would be started in the state if the government fails to bring back democratic environment.
