Members of the village defence party (VDP) had alerted the police about the incident that took place at line number 15 of the tea estate, which is under Sootea police station.
One of the injured had told the media that they were on their way to buy livestock (pigs) when a group of about 25 to 30 persons stopped and attacked them with machetes, iron rods and sticks without provocation.
