Vajpayee’s ashes immersed at Umshyrpi River in Shillong

SHILLONG: Ashes of former Prime Minister,  Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed  at Umshyrpi river in Dhobighat here on Saturday by BJP State president, Shibun Lyngdoh in presence of cabinet Minister, A L Hek,  party in-charge, Nalin Kohli and other leaders and workers of the party.

The asthi kalsh (Urn carrying the ashes) were brought to the river amidst chanting of slogans in appreciation of the late Prime Minister by the party workers.

Following religious hymns, the state president, Shibun and others immersed the ashes   at the river.

Speaking to media persons, BJP Meghalaya in-charge, Nalin Kohli said that the party would discuss if it should raise the matter of naming some roads or building some assets after the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee  with various governments in the country.

“I do feel something should be done in different parts of the country befitting his memory and to uphold the values which Atal Bihari Vajpayee cherished,” Kohli said

Kohli also said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was loved across the country and he boosted infrastructure in the country through national highways, PMGSY and setting up of DoNER ministry which is a reflection of his concerns for rapid development of the Northeast Region.

“He loved North East and every part of the India,” Kohli added.
