Body formed to buy back plastic bottles in Tura

SHILLONG: A body has been formed to buy back plastic bottles in Tura. Former ANVC-B leader Bernard N Marak said on Thursday that the distributors of various products sat together to check the use of plastic bottles in town and decided to buy back used plastic bottles at Rs 3 per kilo.
()“ We the distributors of various goods felt the need to help the initiative of Tura DC who is trying create awareness by recycling the used plastic bottles in the construction of public toilets. The distributors of Tura came together to discuss the solution to the growing plastic bottle menace in Tura and collectively decided to buy it back through the newly formed body and putting it into alternative use”, Marak said
The distributors also decided to hire helpers to collect the bottles from market places and install a seperate collection bins solely for plastic bottles.
“ We also discussed the littering of wafer packets and other soft drinks packets. We felt the need to create mass awareness among the public to reduce the use of plastic goods in the town. Presently the distributor’s body will focus on collecting and buying back the empty bottles”, Marak said.
