SHILLONG: The KSU NEHU unit and NEHUSU apprehended two drug addicts and peddlers from Gate 2 of the campus and found three small tins and white paper containing 2.11 gm (approximately) of heroin in their possession.
Frequent theft at NEHU hostel raised the alarm and students were on vigil.
The addicts told the KSU NEHU unit that they took to robbery as they needed money to buy drugs. “There were times when we would get hold of outsiders entering the hostel illegally to steal students’ materials. The drug peddlers would enter the NEHU campus in a purple vehicle (Swift),” president of KSU NEHU Unit Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said.
On Monday, members of the KSU NEHU unit and NEHUSU received information that the vehicle had entered the campus.
“We found the vehicle at Gate no. 2. While we were speaking, one of them tried to get away taking along with him a small container and a white paper which contained drugs,” Sanmiet said. They were taken to the NEHUSU office and the security officer of NEHU was also informed, besides Mawlai police.
“Mawlai police and Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrived. On testing, it was confirmed that the seized drug was heroin,” he added.
In this connection, the NEHUSU and the KSU NEHU unit have warned drug peddlers and addicts from entering the campus.
