SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Monday criticised the frequent transfer of government officers from various government offices by the present government. Sangma was taking part in the discussion on special motion related to the overall development of the state.
Arguing on the rampant transfer of officers, he said OCs, SPs, officers, were being transferred from time to time and asked, “Are they disobeying the government? There must be some reasons.”
He questioned the transfer of Revenue Director as within three months, a new Revenue Director was appointed. Sangma said he knew the reason why the Director was transferred.
Sangma also pointed out the State Security Commission which was constituted to deal with the appointment of DGP.
Bakrid circular flayed
Sangma also flayed the circular issued by the Home (police) department to see that no illegal slaughter of cows takes place during Bakrid.
“The circular was given to all SPs and DCs during Bakrid. In the past our government had said no to such type of notifications”, he said.
Referring to the Centre’s notification on ban on cow slaughter in the past, Sangma said, “We had taken a resolution asking the government of India to withdraw the notification or amend it”.
According to Sangma, it was not only the Congress government, but other political parties had also opposed such move.
Sangma wanted to know whether the Chief Minister, Home Minister and other Ministers were aware about the circular.
“Nobody should whip up contentious issues which are not acceptable to our people”, he said.
